christmas tree- check

Last Friday we drove over to Seguin to get our Christmas tree! We had so much fun last year that we decided to make it our own family tradition. With the horrible drought this year, we didn't have a lot to choose from but still got a super cute tree! It is shorter than we'd hoped for, but I improvised and made it taller. Photos to come!! So we sneaked into the vacant yard beside us to enjoy the pretty fall scene. This might be the only changing tree I have seen in NB. Thankfully it is right next door! Most of you know Brent is fed up with teaching. Don't you think he'd make a great assistant for me?!? He quite handy with the camera. I love all of my guys.

lovin' Liesl

Well, we had a wonderful weekend with Jerheme, Emily and Liesl Anne! Mom and our friends Christyn and Chris Baer joined us for an amazing little fall vacation. We are completely worn out, so won't write much now. I had to share just a few with everyone though! It'll be a busy November and I may not get to post much. Thanks Urban's for a perfect weekend. We love you!

"He makes me lie down in green pastures"- King David (my first real 'blog post')

I have been so blessed by our home group bible study this year. Last February Brent and I took a leap of faith and committed to hosting a weekly small group in our home. It has been an adventure for us both as we have gotten so very close with a handful of amazing believers. It has been awesome to see who the Lord brings and we are grateful to Him for providing this dwelling place to meet. It was a dream that God do great things in this house and it is happening!
This semester we are reading A Shepherd Looks at Pslam 23 by W. Phillip Keller. Brent and I actually did a two person study together when we first started dating and read this book. We loved it and had this scripture read at our wedding!
Keller, a former shepherd, breaks down each verse of the pslam and relates it to the actual skill of herding sheep. How humbling it has been to see how Christ truly is our Great Shepherd and we his flock. Yes, I frequently find myself like a stubborn sheep who has gone astray, but can rest assured that my Shepherd will search high and low and lead me back to still waters.
This semester has been tough. School is out of control. Cysts. Life is super busy. Drama knocking at the door. Photography is taking off, yet I must take care of business at home and school first. I must stay true to my Maker and have Him lead the way. Only He can help me honor my husband, family, friends and students. It is a struggle when life gets so busy.
I am thankful for King David and his pslam. Lately he has reminded me to fix my eyes on God so that they may not be on the ones around me. Keller states "When I turn to God and expose the problem to Him, allowing Him to see that I have a dilemma, a difficulty, a disagreeable experience beyond my control, He comes to assist. Often a helpful approach is simply to say aloud, 'O Master, this is beyond me- I can't cope with it- it's bugging me- I can't rest- please take over!'"
I love that I can cry out like this. I love that my cries are heard by the true Prince of Peace. I love that in such a crazy moment in time I do have peace.
Anyway, I am really just excited about this lovely short and easy read. It may seem small, but it is powerfully packed with the Word of God. I totally recommend it to anyone. It is great for men and women of all ages. I encourage you (whoever actually reads our blog) to call out to the Great Shepherd and join His flock. He is waiting to lead you!

Finn Isaac Jacobson

Nels and Teagan are proud parents to sweet little Finn. We made a mad dash up to Denton yesterday to visit the new family. Brent is in love with his new nephew and Nels and Teagan are already amazing parents!! Congrats you two!

Urban Fix

We got our Urban fix this past weekend. Jerh had an off weekend so he and the family flew home! We only got to spend about two hours with them due to our crazy weekend of parties and weddings. We had a great time with them though and enjoyed watching Liesl run around. She quickly grabbed my scarf so I wrapped it around her. Then Nannie brought her a stick horse and boy did she love it. Here are just a few photos of her and her sweet smile. We can't wait to spend the whole weekend with you guys soon! Thanks for coming home!

doors and knobs!

So it took me about two years to get a headboard, but I did it! I have been searching for the perfect doors for quite some time now. Finally, I found them! Yes, they are from Max's Haus. We got them Friday and I spent all day Saturday scrubbing them clean and painting a clear coat of protector on them. Then, I also finally got the curtains up the way I really wanted them. I bought some fun knobs from Hobby Lobby and screwed those curtains right in the wall! Yep, that's silly many of you will say, but sometimes I'm just a silly kind of girl! Who says you have to follow the "rules" of decorating? Besides, they are only lightly screwed in the frame, so it will not be hard for me to take them down to wash (you know, every ten years. haha just jokin'!).
